Partner Universities & Colleges in Finland

Finland's world-class higher education system includes over 500 English-taught bachelor's and master's degree programs at 13 universities and 22 institutions of applied sciences (UAS). The institutions also offer Ph.D. programs taught in English. Scholarships are available for overseas students at all universities and institutions of applied sciences.

To attract more foreign students, Finnish institutions have increased the number of academic programs provided in English. There are presently over 600 study programs at the Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate levels, with the number increasing every year. Any discipline, whether business, engineering, computer science, social sciences, natural sciences, medicine, or law, has an English-taught study option.

Tuition fees may be required for international students, albeit there are certain exceptions. Tuition fees typically vary from 6,000 EUR per year to 18,000 EUR per year. The fees vary depending on the university and the study program.

Is IELTS required to study in Finland?

To be admitted to an English-taught study program in Finland, you must present proof of English competence. You are not required to take a test such as IELTS or TOEFL. The following factors are generally sufficient to demonstrate that you speak English fluently:

  1. You are a native English speaker.

  2. Your prior academic degree was taught in English at a university in the EU/EEA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the US.

  3. Some Finnish universities will also accept you if just a part of your prior academic degree was taught in English - if you acquired that degree at a Finnish university or university of applied sciences.

If you do not fulfill those requirements, you will most likely be required to take an English exam to demonstrate your language abilities. Every university in Finland accepts IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, or PBT, and nearly all accept the Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic).

What IELTS exam scores do I need to study English in Finland?
